Churn Rate

What is Churn Rate?

Churn Rate, often referred to as attrition rate, is a key business metric that indicates how quickly customers or employees leave or disengage from a company within a specific timeframe. This metric is essential for evaluating customer or employee retention and loyalty, as well as for gauging the success of strategies aimed at enhancing customer satisfaction or employee engagement.

Types of Churn Rate:

  • Customer Churn Rate: This represents the percentage of customers who discontinue using a company's products or services during a defined period. It is particularly relevant for subscription-based businesses or sectors that rely on long-term customer relationships.

  • Employee Churn Rate: This indicates the percentage of employees who exit an organization over a specified timeframe, whether through voluntary means (such as resignations) or involuntary means (like terminations or retirements).

Formula for Customer Churn Rate:

Customer Churn Rate= (Number of Customers Lost during a Period ÷ Number of Customers at the Start of the Period ) ×100

Formula for Employee Churn Rate:

Employee Churn Rate= (Number of Employees Who Left during a Period ÷ Average Number of Employees during that Period) × 100
