…and why is the distinction important?

In 1981, the trio of Roger W. Sperry, David H Hubel and Torsten N Wiesel were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine for their work on now famous ‘Split Brain’ research.

Anatomically, the human brain is divided into two hemispheres called the right brain and the left brain. According to research findings, the left brain is a center of logical activities, such as thinking, sequencing, linear thinking, number crunching etc., while the right brain drives the pursuit of artistic activities, such as visualisations, imagination, intuition, rhythm, holistic thinking, arts etc.

This theory proved that depending upon the dominant hemisphere, people are either left or right brain dominated, i.e. logical or artistic in their basic nature.
