What is Peers?
A peer is someone who shares a similar status or position within a particular context, such as a workplace or school. For example, in high school, fellow students in the same grade level are considered peers, just as colleagues at the same job level are peers in a professional setting. The word "peer" originates from the Latin word par, meaning equal.
In the context of Human Resources, the term "peer" is often used during performance evaluations, specifically in a process known as peer appraisal. In this process, coworkers assess each other’s performance, providing feedback and evaluations from the perspective of those who work closely together. This method allows for a more comprehensive review based on firsthand experiences and interactions within the same level or role.
